Community Newsletter

Smartline Community Newsletter

Smartline has approximately 300 project participants based in the Camborne, Pool, Illogan and Redruth community. The purpose of the Community Newsletter is to keep each household up to date with the latest project news and offer new opportunities.

The last six months has been a busy period for the project so we had lots of news to share in the July edition of the newsletter:

  • We interviewed Dr Richard Sharpe, an expert in indoor environments and health, and Cheryl Paterson, a Graduate Research Associate in Smart Housing and Health, to explain the air quality data that participants can see from their home sensors. Richard and Cheryl also talked about how the information is helping researchers understand more about indoor air quality and its relationship to health and wellbeing, especially for asthmatics.
  • There is an article explaining the business support being given to ADi Access and Green&Blue, both companies are now creating new online services thanks to the support from Smartline.
  • Researchers described how they are hoping to make the first community map of Cornwall so households would receive an invitation letter in the post soon.

The next edition will be published in September and will contain updates on:

  • Initial findings from our volunteer research which aims to understand why people volunteer and how rates of volunteering can be improved
  • An article explaining the upcoming research on asthma and how project participants can get involved
  • Highlighting local activities that might be of interest to residents of Camborne, Pool, Illogan and Redruth
